On Superfoods And Period Superpowers: Funk It Wellness

In anticipation of our upcoming markets, we’re touching base with a few of our vendors about what it means to nurture your creative self, as well as your community.

Today, get to know Kate Morton, the founder of Funk It Wellness.

ABOUT KATE MORTON AND FUNK IT WELLNESS

Kate Morton is a Registered Dietitian & the founder of Funk It Wellness. She has a master's degree in Human Clinical Nutrition that focuses on women's health and fertility.  Kate fell in love with period health while living in New Zealand and working her way through her own hormonal journey.

1. Describe Funk It Wellness in three emojis.

🩸🧚🏽‍♀️🌱

2. What does being a creative person mean to you? How do you claim your creative identity?

For me, creativity is making people think in a different way.  When I started Funk it, my goal was to reframe the way people view their period health, from a burden to a superpower.

3. Looking back on the last year, what have you learned from your business or creative work?

My biggest takeaway from the past year is that showing up consistently with a positive attitude is the most underrated business tool. I have also learned my period truly is a superpower in business.

4. Describe the feeling you get when you make something new that’s in line with your vision.

Creating new products and educational material is my happy place and it feels like an absolute gift to be able to work in that space regularly.

5. How do you get into the headspace to make something new?

Creating a headspace of creativity has been really difficult for me as my business has grown.  What it comes down to for me is creating time away from my business to allow new ideas and thought paths to take over.

6. If you could collaborate with any vendor on The Front Market lineup, who would it be?

Redeemer Small Batch or The Good Hippie.

7. What has the word “community” come to mean to you this last year?

Community has meant creating a safe space to learn and grow together.  Periods can be hard to talk about but when you feel comfortable to share and learn it challenges the period stigma.

8. What are some of your goals for 2022?

To help 1000s of people get in touch with their cycles and take back their bodies!

9. Is there anything else you’d like to include that I didn’t get to cover?

We have an office in Canopy Austin and host monthly free yoga!  Also, there is still a tax on tampons in Texas—and we should all pull that to a full-stop together.

EVERYTHING WE DO SUPPORTS WOMEN AND LGBTQ+ CREATIVES, DESIGNERS, ARTISTS AND SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS FROM THE TEXAS SOUTH.

You can browse the 190+ vendors on holiday season lineup here.
